Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates homicide in Red Deer

On March 21, 2024, at 3:51 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received a report of a shooting that occurred at an apartment building on Parke Avenue in Red Deer. As officers arrived, a suspect was observed running from the area. After a short foot pursuit, the male was arrested and a firearm seized. A second male suspect was also located near the scene and arrested. Other officers arriving on scene located a deceased person who has been identified as 54-year-old Red Deer resident Jason Cory Worobec.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit was dispatched and has taken over the investigation.

RCMP have charged a 45-year-old individual and a 46-year-old individual, both residents of Red Deer. The 45-year-old indivdiual was charged with second-degree murder while the 46-year-old individual was charged with Accessory after the fact to Murder.

Both individuals were taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. The 46-year-old individual will next appear in court on March 25, 2024, while the 45-year-old individual will next appear in court on March 27, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
