On April 10, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., officers of the Camrose Police Service, while investigating a report of theft of fuel, observed a suspicious Ford F350. As the officer turned around to catch up to the suspect vehicle, it immediately fled at a high rate of speed. Officers were able to maintain a visual and observed the truck as it stopped along a tree line on Range Road 210 and Township road 472. Camrose Police set up containment in the area and asked the RCMP for assistance.
Officers from Wetaskiwin RCMP arrived, as well as RCMP Police Dog Services. RCMP deployed a drone and a police dog and quickly located two suspects.
Camrose Police have charged a 49-year-old individual, a resident of Edmonton, with the following:
- Flight from police
- Dangerous driving
- Possession stolen property over $5000
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Possession of break-in tools
- Possession of a controlled substance
After a judicial interim release hearing, the 49-year-old individual was released with his next court date set for May 18, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton.
A 54-year-old individual, a resident of Edmonton, was also charged with:
- Possession stolen property over $5000
- Possession of stolen property under $5000
- Possession of break in instruments
As the information has not been sworn, the individual cannot be named. The individual will appear on May 29, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Camrose.
"This was a great example of two police forces working in tandem to support one another in fighting rural theft," says Inspector Corbett of the Camrose Police Service. "Inspector Spaans of the RCMP states, "The RCMP is Alberta's Police Force and we are here to assist all agencies in an effort to fight crime. We are pleased to have assisted in the capture of theses two rural property crime offenders."
