Members of the Alberta RCMP receive prestigious Order of Merit of Police Forces

On Feb. 14 and 15, 2024, the Governor Generals office held the Order of Merit of Police Forces ceremony.

"Established in October 2000, the Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by Canadian Police Services, and recognizes their commitment to Canada."

To be nominated to receive this prestigious award, candidates must be of irreproachable character exemplified by good conduct, industry, and efficiency that serves as a model for others.

This year Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada, invested four members of the Alberta RCMP with the Order of Merit

Chief Superintendent Kevin Kunetzki, M.O.M. - Through his dedication and leadership, Chief Superintendent Kunetzki has contributed to a number of policing initiatives that directly impact the safety of Albertans. He has also demonstrated his commitment to the public through his volunteer work and participation with various committees and organizations.

Chief Superintendent Gary Graham, M.O.M. - Since joining the RCMP, Chief Superintendent Graham has implemented a number of programs to enhance crime prevention and public safety. He has been a proponent of sharing knowledge and best practices among officers and police agencies to foster strong working relationships. He also dedicates personal time to volunteering and coaching initiatives in his community.

Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz, M.O.M. - During his career, Staff Sergeant Wielgosz has demonstrated leadership in crime prevention, community engagement, and public safety. His achievements are actively improving the safety of southern Alberta, and his ongoing volunteer efforts are helping to make communities more welcoming and inclusive. Staff Sergeant Wielgosz is seen as a role model among his peers and community.

Inspector Joel Whittaker, M.O.M. - Throughout his career, Inspector Whittaker has led with a passion for protecting the public and representing diverse communities; high quality service and public safety are at the heart of his work. His achievements in tactical, operational, and strategic initiatives have changed the way police services are delivered to Albertans.

These officers demonstrate exceptional merit through their contributions to policing, community development, and fostering relationships among law enforcement, as well as between police and the communities they serve.
